Welcome to Assemble!
Here, we'll look at several different
characters across multiple series to see who would form a perfect team
for a certain genre. From fighting game rosters to RPG adventuring
parties, different types of characters tend to show up frequently. What
we'll do here is look at those archetypes to see what character is the
best fit for that slot, and in the end, we’ll have the best team for the
job. These articles will also be shorter entries, compared to some of
the more long-form articles here, focusing on one or two characters at a
time.
When talking about horror, the villains, monsters, and
killers are often the first things that come to people’s minds. The people they
hunt are often an afterthought, but these characters show that not all survivors
are that easy to kill. The right group with the right people can make things
very difficult for the killer. Here, we’ll be looking at that can represent
different archetypes of horror movie characters, to build a strong squad of
survivors.
THE FOOL
Often considered the comic relief character, The Fool is the
one providing most of the movie’s jokes, and as a result, most of its levity.
Often portrayed as a stoner or a prankster, this character likes playing around
and goofing off more than anything else and other characters in the group
they’re in often have to reign them in and try to get them to take things
seriously. In fact, this character getting killed off is often an indicator
that the jokes are dead too and the movie will be serious from here on out. For
this character, we’ll need an enduring character who remains a source of cheer
and laughs and manages to survive all the horrors that they face.
Our pick for The Fool is…
Shaggy Rogers from Scooby-Doo
This character may not be as well-versed in fighting or
action as some of our previous entries, and he may not have faced off against actual but this teen detective fits the Fool
role like a glove. Part of the mystery-solving group Mystery Inc., Shaggy
(along with his dog Scooby-Doo) is known for two things, his appetite and his
cowardice, and several jokes are made towards both. Shaggy is known for making
crazy food combinations to chow down on and coming up with crazy set-ups to try
to confuse the monster chasing him long enough to make a good getaway. Despite
his goofiness, he still manages to contribute to the group in solving mysteries
and, when on his own with Scooby, they’ve even had some adventures on their
own.
For being an enduring (and endearing) example of this character type, we now add Shaggy Rogers to the roster.
