Welcome to Assemble!
When talking about horror, the villains, monsters, and killers are often the first things that come to people’s minds. The people they hunt are often an afterthought, but these characters show that not all survivors are that easy to kill. The right group with the right people can make things very difficult for the killer. Here, we’ll be looking at that can represent different archetypes of horror movie characters, to build a strong squad of survivors.
THE SOUTHERNER
Cowboys, rednecks, hillbillies; people from the American
South are infrequent but notable inclusions in horror media. When they aren’t
shown as the killers themselves or the killer’s helpers, instead being one of
the survivors chased by them, they are often shown as hard-headed and stubborn,
which can be fatal faults in a horror story. They don’t tend to be too bright,
but some can rival the Athlete for strength and they likely have a gun
somewhere nearby, which will definitely come in handy.
Our pick for the Southerner is…
Tallahassee from Zombieland
Even considering the facts that there are not many
still-living characters in Zombieland and most of the ones that are don’t even
go by their real names anymore, this zombie-killing cowboy is easily the most
memorable character in this movie.
(Heads up: not counting Double Tap yet since it only just
came out. Great that it finally came out though.)
He has a penchant for mayhem and chaotic fun, an implied
love of NASCAR (hinted at the Dale Earnhardt #3 he likes keeping on the vehicles
he drives), a strong appetite for Twinkies that motivates him to move across a
zombie-infested America, and an arsenal of weapons that he uses with style.
Whether he’s engaging in melee combat with walkers in a grocery store or run-and-gun
action in an amusement park, he knows how to kill hordes of the undead and have
a good time doing it.
For not just surviving but thriving in a zombie apocalypse
situation, we now add Tallahassee to the roster.
