Assemble! - Horror Victim Archetypes - The Scholar

Welcome to Assemble!
Here, we'll look at several different characters across multiple series to see who would form a perfect team for a certain genre. From fighting game rosters to RPG adventuring parties, different types of characters tend to show up frequently. What we'll do here is look at those archetypes to see what character is the best fit for that slot, and in the end, we’ll have the best team for the job. These articles will also be shorter entries, compared to some of the more long-form articles here, focusing on one or two characters at a time.

When talking about horror, the villains, monsters, and killers are often the first things that come to people’s minds. The people they hunt are often an afterthought, but these characters show that not all survivors are that easy to kill. The right group with the right people can make things very difficult for the killer. Here, we’ll be looking at that can represent different archetypes of horror movie characters, to build a strong squad of survivors.

THE SCHOLAR

From one end of the high school hierarchy to the other. The Scholar is a clearly geeky or nerdy kid who is shown as intelligent, but with difficulties talking to others, and as a result, is often outcast by all except other nerds. Basically, book-smart, but not street-smart. Frequent characteristics include glasses, squeaky voices, clothing with overly formal touches (like bowties or suspenders) or nerdy references, asthma, a love for comic books and/or video games, and a knack for science, technology, and tinkering. That last one in particular can come in handy when fixing or inventing equipment to combat whatever threat the group is facing. Though they still find themselves a victim more often than not.

Our pick for The Scholar is…

Zack Fowler from Monster Madness

One of the four survivors of the monster invasion from the video game Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia, Zack shows several characteristics of a stereotypical nerd. From the glasses and squeaky voice to the scientific know-how and love of science fiction, he fits the stereotype in a lot of ways. However, he manages to keep up with the rest of the group in fighting their way through the horde of different monsters to try to figure out how to stop it all. And there are many monsters they have to fight. Vampires, werewolves, zombies, living dolls, swamp monsters, demons; just about anything you can think of is something Zack and company has had to face. While the four of them use a variety of different weapons to fight, they are created and maintained by a handy biker named Larry Tools, though there are some hints that Zack may be able to fashion similar weaponry on his own.

For overcoming the odds to survive a dire situation, we now add Zack Fowler to the roster.
